by Viviana Prado-Núñez

Presented by Step1 Theatre Project

Sunday, November 20th @ 11:00am EST
Arts On Site, Studio 3F
12 St Marks Pl, NYC

Join us for our last R&D of the year! A special morning brunch edition, we'll have breakfast treats, coffee, water, and orange juice & sparkling wine for mimosas! Come listen to a play in development, followed by a brief Q&A with the playwright.

Synopsis:

Two months after Hurricane Maria, a brother, a sister, and a tree guy gather at Abuela’s house in Puerto Rico for a Thanksgiving dinner of vodka, birthday cake, and an elegiac kind of nostalgia. A heartbreaking, hilarious, and deeply human portrait of people and places left behind—of trees threatening to fall down, tractors ascending to heaven, the never-ending whirr of generators, the dull ache of aftermath, and how some people live with it (or don’t).

What is R&D?
...Ours stands for Reading & Drinking!...

R&D is a free, informal gathering of artists invited to have a (totally optional) drink or two while volunteer performers read new works/ works-in-progress by independent playwrights. Past R&D pieces have ranged from short plays, one-acts, full lengths, to musical excerpts. Our free developmental reading series creates a laid-back environment for hearing pieces aloud while offering an opportunity for feedback.

Are you a playwright with a new/developing piece you wanna hear out loud (but aren't trying to drain your own resources $$$ to put up a reading on your own)? Let us do it! Submit your works here for consideration for an R&D session! All lengths and genres accepted.
